When it’s time to buy a new computer we are thinking which one would be better: laptop or desktop. The answer depends on our needs. We must analyze some points and choose the one that suits us best. Every person has another needs, many of us uses computers only at home, others prefer taking it everywhere.

I prepared some key points that will help you to decide:

1. Desktop is faster than laptop.

Yes, that’s true, generally speaking desktop computer with the same clock as laptop is faster. But on the other hand laptops are also good for games, films, graphics, music. They are a little slower but we can use them for everything. There are for example multi-cored laptops designed especially for games.

2. Laptop is portable, mobile.

Laptop is portable and we can take it everywhere with us. Desktop needs to be placed in specially organized area. It’s possible but difficult to take desktop to another place, we must take monitor, tower, keyboard, mouse. We will need a car for that J.

3. It’s easier to upgrade desktop.

It’s easier to upgrade graphics card, processor, add better music card to desktop computer. It always was because desktop computer has much more free space inside the tower. Laptops are smaller and almost everything is integrated inside. Some time it’s better to buy new laptop than upgrade it.

4. Laptops use less energy than desktops.

Laptops are smaller than desktops, they need less power to work. If you are environmentally friendly choose mobile laptop.

5. Desktop needs more space.

Desktop computer consists of central unit, monitor, mouse, keyboard, and sometimes speakers. It needs much more space than laptop. We can place laptop anywhere, when desktop needs for example special desk.

6. Laptops have built-in webcams and media software.

When we’re buying new laptop in most cases it has software added by its manufacturer. It also has built-in webcam and speakers. We don’t need to buy them separately. Computer is ready for video conference.

7. You have to be more careful about mobile computer.

It’s easy to leave mobile computer somewhere and don’t remember about it, like a mobile phone for example. We must be also careful about thieves. They are observing people with laptops to steal them. It’s easier to lost laptop than desktop.

8. Laptops can work on batteries.

Every laptop can work on batteries without connecting it to the socket with energy. It’s comfortable to watch film or listen to music when we are travelling by train for example.

9. The prices for desktop and mobile computer are similar.

Some time ago mobile computers were very expensive. It was really easier to buy desktop computer. Nowadays the prices are similar.

10. Laptop has smaller screen.

That’s true that laptop has smaller screen but that’s not a big problem because we can connect it to external monitor.
